Legacy of Peace Initiatives
Conferenza internazionale per discutere sul significato della mobilitazione pacifista degli anni '90 e della sua influenza nella costituzione di uno Stato di diritto
Twenty years have passed since the events, which marked the beginning of wars on the territory of former Yugoslavia, took place. Breakup of Yugoslavia and founding of new nation-states strongly influenced the society in all its aspects.
The young citizenry which, since mid-1980s, has become gradually liberated from the socialist ideology and met with undemocratic regimes, did not react in a passive manner. On July 4, 1991, a charter entitled "Let's prevent the war!" ("Spriječimo rat!") was issued with a memo written by the Green Action, establishing the Anti-War Campaign. Marking of this date is the occasion for organizing a regional conference, "Legacy of Peace Initiatives", with the aim of gathering peace activists and theoreticians to discuss the meaning of all anti-war and peace attempts from the early 1990s.
What was the reach of their actions in the society? In what way have they acted beside and against state institutions, and in what sense did they advocate for the establishment of a state of law? In what way have they influenced the affirmation of living in accordance with one's own consciousness and how have they influenced putting on the agenda different neglected social problems? How many lives have they saved? What was their treatment of theory? What tasks stand today in front of a systematic peace policy?
These are only some of the questions the organisers plan to open up for discussion.
