Presentation title: “Civic Technology in the Public Realm: Oh, the Possibilities…”

Bio: Dr. Robinson Dr. Pamela Robinson MCIP RPP is a professor and the Director of the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson. Throughout her career as a planner her research and practice have focused on complex, emergent challenges that Canadian communities face. Her current research focuses on the question: who is planning the Canadian smart city? Since 2010, Pamela has written a regular column for Spacing Magazine where she writes about technology and civic engagement in Canadian cities.

Presentation title: “Why Rijeka Matters: Lessons of the Twentieth Century for Croatia Today”

Bio: Tvrtko Jakovina (MA, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven; Dr. phil. 2003 University of Zagreb) is professor at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb and guest-lecturer at Istituto per l'Europa Centro-orientale e Balcanica, University of Bologna. He was a research visiting fellow at the LSE, Fulbright visiting scholar at the Georgetown University. His publications include: “Socialism on the American Grain” /Socijalizam na američkoj pšenici (2002) and “The American Communist Ally. Croats, Tito’s Yugoslavia and the United States 1945-1955”/Američki komunistički saveznik; Hrvati, Titova Jugoslavija i Sjedinjene Američke Države 1945-1955 (2003). Jakovina has authored many articles dealing with the foreign policy of Tito’s Yugoslavia and Croatian history in 20th century.

Visita guidata sul patrimonio culturale italiano a Fiume / Guided Tour / Vođena Tura Rijeka in Flux

• In occasione del lancio e presentazione della Applicazione per Smartphone Rijeka Fiume in Flux e in collaborazione con la Comunità italiana di Fiume, Sabato 19 giugno saranno offerte a Fiume due visite guidate per i luoghi dell’App che si soffermeranno sul patrimonio culturale italiano a Fiume. Livio Karavanić, guida autorizzata della città, fiumano di estrazione quarnerina croata e italiana, accompagnato da alcuni degli ideatori e autori della app, offrirà due tour per la Fiume di ieri e oggi a partire dagli spunti e approfondimenti offerti dalla app. “Rijeka-Fiume in Flux”. I tour partiranno dalla piazza del Teatro Ivan de Zajc Sabato 19 giugno alle 10 di mattina (in lingua croata) e alle ore 18 (in lingua italiana) e dureranno due ore circa. I tour non toccheranno esclusivamente il patrimonio italiano, ma useranno la prospettiva della tradizione culturale italiana e i marker segnalati dall’app per offrire un viaggio fisico e virtuale tra passato e presente sulle tracce della città multietnica attraverso un’esperienza interattiva che valorizzerà le potenzialità dello strumento digitale e della comunicazione verbale. Il desiderio degli organizzatori è di coinvolgere le comunità nazionali di Fiume e offrire agli abitanti della città e ai turisti, con l’ausilio della app e con altre visite guidate della città che useranno il patrimonio e le tradizioni culturali croate, ungheresi, ebraiche e asburgiche, jugoslave e post jugoslave e di altre comunità che hanno lasciato tracce e segnato la vita nella città poliedrica e multicolore. • On the occasion of the launch and presentation of the Smartphone Application Rijeka Fiume in Flux and in collaboration with the Italian Community of Rijeka, the creators of the app will offer two guided tours on Saturday June 19, 2021. Livio Karavanić, a local authorized city guide of Croatian and Italian descent, will lead two tours of Rijeka accompanied by "Rijeka in Flux" staff. These tours will present the past and present of the city relying on the ideas, places and insights offered by the app, with a special focus on the Italian cultural heritage in Rijeka. The tours will both start from the square of the Croatian National Theater Ivan Zajc on Saturday 19 June; one tour starts at 10 am (in Croatian language) and the other at 6 pm (in Italian language); each tour lasts approximately two hours. The tours will not only present the Italian heritage, but will use the perspective of the Italian cultural tradition and the markers indicated by the app to offer a physical and virtual journey on the tracks of the multi-ethnic city through an interactive experience that will enhance the potential of the digital and physical tools of the app. The intention of the organizers is to involve the national communities of Rijeka and offer to the inhabitants of the city and tourists, many other tours in the future, covering and relying on the Croatian heritage in town, on the Hungarian, Jewish and Habsburg legacies, on the Slovenian and other Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav traces on the culture and everyday lives of the multifaceted and multicolored Rijeka. Due to Covid restrictions the number of available spots is limited and we invite those interested in these two tours to contact the organizers (writing to: rijekainflux@gmail.com). • Povodom službenog otvaranja i prezentacije aplikacije pametnog telefona Rijeka Fiume in Flux te u suradnji sa Talijanskom zajednicom u Rijeci, kreatori aplikacije nude dvije vođene ture sljedeće subote, 19. lipnja 2021. godine. Livio Karavanić, ovlašteni gradski turistički vodič hrvatskog i talijanskog podrijetla, vodit će dvije ture šetnje kroz Rijeku uz pratnju Rijeka Fiume in Flux istraživača. Navedene ture predstavit će prošlost i sadašnjost grada, oslanjajući se na ideje, mjesta i uvide koje nudi aplikacija, a s posebnim fokusom na talijansko kulturno nasljeđe u Rijeci. Obje ture kreću sa Trga ispred Hrvatskog narodnog kazališta Ivana pl. Zajca; jedna tura počinje u 10:00 sati ujutro (vođena na hrvatskom jeziku), dok druga počinje u 18:00 sati ( vođena na talijanskom jeziku); svaka tura traje otprilike dva sata. Vođene ture neće samo pokazati talijansko nasljeđe, već će kroz talijansku kulturnu tradiciju pružiti perceptivu i označitelje koji su navedeni u aplikaciji, a sve kako bi pružili fizičko i virtualno iskustvo multi-etničkog grada kroz interaktivno iskustvo koje će pojačati potencijal digitalnog i fizičkog aparata aplikacije. Namjera je organizatora da poveže nacionalne zajednice Rijeke te ponudi građanima i turistima dodatne ture u budućnosti, a koje bi obradile te se oslanjale na hrvatsko nasljeđe u gradu - na mađarskom, židovskom i Habsburškom nasljeđu, na Slovenskom i ostalim jugoslovenskim i post-jugoslavenskim tragovima na kulturi i svakodenvnici života u višeznačnoj i raznobojnoj Rijeci. Zbog covid mjera ograničen je broj sudionika, a oni koji su zainteresirani za sudjelovanje na turama, mogu se prijaviti na mail rijekainflux@gmail.com.
