Politicians in North Macedonia sent congratulations through their social media profiles for the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. All messages emphasise the strategic alliance between Washington and Skopje, with expectations that cooperation will continue with the new American administration.

President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova wrote in a message that North Macedonia, as a proven friend and partner of the United States, will continue to support American and global efforts for peace, stability and security, based on the need for justice, respect for international law, freedom and human dignity in the world.

“I am confident that in the period ahead, our strategic partnership will be enhanced and enriched and that the United States will help fulfill Macedonia’s strategic goals”, adds Siljanovska Davkova.

The Speaker of the Assembly Afrim Gashi, from the BESA movement, said that North Macedonia has been and will remain a strong ally of the development and stabilisation policies of the United States.

“The unwavering commitment of the United States to the security, prosperity, and Euro-Atlantic integration of North Macedonia has been and remains one of the key pillars of our foreign policy and a constant source of support”, wrote Gashi. “Wishing president Trump success in leading the country and in realising his agenda for the future, we express our full readiness to deepen cooperation with the new American administration, to strengthen our strategic partnership”, he added.

VMRO-DPMNE Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski posted a message on his social media profiles and made a statement during the US election day. He pointed out that Trump's victory is a confirmation of the deep faith of the American people in the principles of freedom and democracy.

"We look forward to further deepening our strong partnership and cooperation, especially in the areas of security, economic development and democratic reforms. Macedonia remains committed to building even stronger ties with the United States, as a strategic ally and friend, which will continue to strengthen the stability and progress of the entire region”, Mickoski stressed.

The leader of the opposition SDSM, Venko Filipce, also congratulated Trump on Facebook, expressing his belief that under his leadership the strategic partnership between the United States and North Macedonia will continue and deepen.

"North Macedonia and the United States of America have long-standing ties of friendship and cooperation, and I believe that they will develop even further, towards our mutual progress and prosperity”, wrote Filipce.

According to the president of the opposition party DUI, Ali Ahmeti, the eyes of the whole world are on the United States of America. "I congratulate the American people and President Trump on his election today and I share the conviction that the American focus on the Balkans will continue to be as strong as ever in order to finally resolve the open issues between the countries of Southeast Europe," said Ali Ahmeti.

The public Macedonian broadcaster followed the process and the voting of American citizens who voted at the American Embassy.

"My message as an American ambassador is very consistent. As is the case here with your elections, it is absolutely of vital interest for every citizen to go out and vote. Voting in a democracy is a sacred responsibility and a huge privilege”, stated US ambassador Angela Ageler during election day. “I voted and I will do so again, I very much hope for a peaceful and fair transfer of power. We expect that and we hope for that, and like all of you, I expect to see who wins. So, we will all watch it together”.

The Macedonian national television organised a debate on the US presidential election where several political analysts, university professors and former politicians shared their opinions on the electoral process and its outcome.
